We went on a little mini vacation yesterday. Macy earned a trip to the MAIS Overall Spelling Bee after winning first 1st place in our district bee, so we headed to Jackson! We decided to go a day early and make a fun trip out of it. Can I tell you how excited my girls were to be staying in a hotel?!
I am very OCD when it comes to going out of town. I want everything just so at home before we leave town so that all I have to do when I get home is unpack and do laundry. I was trying to get my laundry room in order before leaving yesterday, and in my haste, I burned my arm on the iron. It doesn't look like much, but it hurt so bad!
My parents sent Macy a beautiful arrangement of gerber daisies to wish her the best in the spelling bee. I love gerber daisies!
We got on the road about 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon and drove straight into this...
The weather was a little scary, but thankfully we made it through safe and sound. Little sister snoozed the whole way. She looked so comfy...
We ate at Mugshots when we got into town. Our plan was to check in the hotel, change clothes (we had all worn gym shorts and t-shirts), then go eat dinner. But it was pouring when we got into Jackson and decided to just go straight to eat, regardless of the way we loked. Funny thing was, I think everybody else in the place was dressed just like we were!
Nothing like eating Baskin Robbins ice cream on a plush, comfy hotel bed..
We got up early this morning to get to the spelling bee.
Macy did a great job. She made it through three rounds before she misspelled a word. The child was as cool as a cucumber. She never gets nervous...she is SO her Daddy's child. I was the one that was a nervous wreck!
After the spelling bee, the girls wanted to go the the Museum of Natural Science, so we headed that way. They had heard there was a two-headed snake there, and they were determined to see it before we got out of town!
You know how I like color. I loved the signs that pointed you everywhere...they were so bright!
And I really liked this mirror...it had such a slimming effect!
Macy and Lucy with a wood carving of a bald eagle...
And with a deer...
Animals were tucked everywhere. This owl looked like it was about to swoop down and eat you...
They loved the frog...
I took this picture of the woodpecker for Jason. You know, shooting red headed woodpeckers is against the law (or it is around here anyway). When Jason was a little boy, he shot one (oops!) and decided he was going to mount it himself. He duct taped the feet to a stick and put it in the freezer to "mount" it. Imagine his disappointment when he took it out of the freezer and it began to thaw.
Loved these flowers (the colors were much brighter in person)...
And for the main attraction...yes...there most definitely was a two-headed snake. A live two-headed snake. Crazy. And disgusting! But it was the highlight of the day!
For some reason, this raccoon reminded me of Lucy...
Perhaps the resemblance is better seen in this picture...
The museum was a lot of fun. They had some really neat things there!
After the museum, we ate lunch at Mellow Mushroom (yummy!) then I got to go in Hobby Lobby and Target. Yay!!
The last couple of weeks have been so crazy as far as school for Macy...last week she went to school Monday, then had an all day field trip on Tuesday, then was out sick the rest of the week. This week, she went on Monday, was out for the Spelling Bee on Tuesday, and will be out of school for Good Friday, then out on the Monday after Easter. She isn't going to know what to do when she has to go to school for a full week!
